Andrea MacMullin Music
FiddleChicks.com

In 1997, I bought my first electric violin, a Zeta Strados, along with a large Peavy amp and a large effects preamp (the music store saw me coming!) Despite not knowing what to do with all that, I put out a music ad and joined a band! I never quite understood how the electronics worked and wondered if any other fledgeling electric violinists had the same problem. It seemed that people who were already acquainted with electric guitars had a clear advantage.
Finding fiddle players with such knowledge was important to me, but there weren't any helpful resources. It also seemed that most of the people I noticed who were playing electric violins were male. Was I struggling alone?
As a web developer/designer, I took a leap and bought the domain, "fiddlechicks.com." I boldly tagged it as "The world's first 1st website dedicated to women on electric violin." Not only did I want to have a directory, but I also REALLY wanted to know what equipment they were using. I realized that it would be easier to get people to sign up and share their story and equipment information, than for me to track them down. When I added the sign-up, that's when it grew!
The website ran from 2000-2009 and had a total of 125 FiddleChicks. I was very proud of this website that I created, both in concept and usefulness, and for the 1-page stories of all these women.
I've recently been trying to recover most the site through internet web archives for perhaps a future archive-only republishing of this site.
Here are some select screenshots of FiddleChicks.com as it once looked:
